TripNextDoor ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use the TripNextDoor platform (the "Platform"), including our website and any associated services.
This policy applies to all users of the Platform, including visitors, registered users, community members, and trip participants. By using the Platform, you consent to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy.

We collect various types of information to provide and improve our services. The categories of information we collect include:
2.1 Account Data
When you register for an account, we collect:
- Name: Your full name as provided during registration.
- Email address: Used for account identification, communication, and notifications.
- Password hash: We store a cryptographically hashed version of your password; we never store your password in plain text.
- Google OAuth profile: If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google's authentication service.
- Profile information: Any additional information you choose to add to your profile, such as a bio or profile photo.
2.2 Travel DNA
We collect your travel preferences and compatibility data ("Travel DNA"), which may include:
- Preferred travel styles (adventure, relaxation, cultural, etc.).
- Budget preferences and spending habits.
- Activity interests and accommodation preferences.
- Travel pace and scheduling preferences.
- Compatibility scores calculated based on your preferences relative to other users in your communities.
2.3 Trip Data
When you create, join, or participate in trips, we collect:
- Destinations, travel dates, and trip descriptions.
- Itinerary details, including planned activities and places.
- Polls, votes, and group decisions made within trips.
- Trip status, participant lists, and role assignments.
2.4 Expense Data
When you use the expense splitting features, we collect:
- Expense amounts and descriptions.
- Payer and participant information for each expense.
- Settlement records and balances between participants.
- Expense categories and associated trip information.
2.5 Community Data
We collect information about your community participation, including:
- Community memberships and your role within each community (admin, member, etc.).
- Invitations sent and received.
- Community settings and preferences you configure.
2.6 Photos and Files
Photos, images, and other files you upload to the Platform are stored on Amazon Web Services S3 (AWS S3). This includes profile photos, trip photos, and any other media you share through the Platform.
2.7 Usage Data
We automatically collect certain information about how you interact with the Platform:
- Pages visited, features used, and actions taken on the Platform.
- Device information, including device type, operating system, and browser type.
- IP address and approximate geographic location derived from your IP address.
- Date and time of access, session duration, and referring URLs.
2.8 Location Data
We collect location data in the following contexts:
- When you search for places or destinations using the trip planning features, we use the Google Places API to provide location search and place details.
- Location information you voluntarily provide when creating trips or adding places to itineraries.
- We do not continuously track your real-time location.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Account management: To create and manage your account, authenticate your identity, and maintain your profile.
- Trip coordination: To facilitate trip planning, group collaboration, itinerary management, expense splitting, and communication between trip participants.
- AI-powered features: To provide AI-generated itinerary suggestions, packing lists, destination recommendations, and other intelligent planning assistance through third-party LLM (Large Language Model) providers. Only trip context data (such as destination, dates, number of travelers, and preferences) is shared with LLM providers for generating these suggestions.
- Notifications: To send you important updates about your trips, communities, expense settlements, and account activity via email and in-app notifications.
- Analytics and improvement: To analyze usage patterns, diagnose technical issues, and improve the Platform's features, performance, and user experience.
- Safety and security: To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical issues.
- Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.
4. Third-Party Sharing
We share your information with the following third-party service providers, each for specific and limited purposes:
4.1 Razorpay (Payment Processing)
We use Razorpay to process subscription payments. When you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment information is collected and processed directly by Razorpay. TripNextDoor does not store your payment card details. Razorpay's handling of your payment data is governed by their own privacy policy.
4.2 Google (Authentication and Location Services)
We use Google OAuth for optional authentication, which provides us with your basic profile information (name, email, profile picture) when you choose to sign in with Google. We also use the Google Places API for location search functionality within trip planning features.
4.3 AWS S3 (File and Photo Storage)
We use Amazon Web Services S3 to securely store photos, images, and other files you upload to the Platform. Files are stored with appropriate access controls and encryption.
4.4 LLM Providers (AI Features)
We use third-party Large Language Model providers, including Google Gemini, OpenAI, and Anthropic, to power AI features such as itinerary generation, packing list suggestions, and travel recommendations. When you use these features:
- Only trip context data (destination, dates, preferences, number of travelers) is sent to the LLM provider.
- No personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, or account details is shared with LLM providers.
- Data sent to LLM providers is used solely for generating the requested output and is not used to train their models, subject to the respective provider's enterprise terms of service.
We do not sell your personal information to any third party. We may also share information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account remains active on the Platform. Specifically:
- Active accounts: All data associated with your account is retained while you maintain an active account.
- Account deletion: Upon your request to delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain information for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business purposes (such as financial transaction records required by tax laws).
- Inactive accounts: Accounts that have been inactive for more than 24 months may be flagged for deletion. We will notify you via email before deleting an inactive account.
- Backup data: Copies of your data in backup archives may persist for up to 90 days after deletion from the primary systems.
6. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to correction: You may request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Right to deletion: You may request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements. You can initiate account deletion from your account settings or by contacting us.
- Right to data portability: You may request a machine-readable copy of your personal data, including your trip data, expense records, and profile information, in a commonly used format (such as JSON or CSV).

7. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:
- Encryption of data in transit using TLS/SSL protocols.
- Encryption of sensitive data at rest, including password hashing using industry-standard algorithms (bcrypt).
- Access controls restricting employee and system access to personal data on a need-to-know basis.
- Regular security assessments and monitoring of our systems for vulnerabilities.
- Secure storage of files and media on AWS S3 with server-side encryption.
While we strive to protect your personal data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to maintaining industry-standard protections.
8. Compliance with Indian Law
TripNextDoor is committed to complying with applicable Indian data protection laws, including:
- Information Technology Act, 2000: We comply with the provisions of the IT Act regarding the handling of sensitive personal data and information.
- Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 (SPDI Rules): We implement reasonable security practices and procedures as required by the SPDI Rules for the protection of sensitive personal data, including passwords, financial information, and biometric data.
We maintain a comprehensive privacy program designed to ensure ongoing compliance with these regulations and any future data protection legislation enacted in India.
9. Grievance Officer
In accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, we have appointed a Grievance Officer to address your concerns regarding data processing:

10. Children's Privacy
TripNextDoor is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18 years of age. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a user under 18, we will take immediate steps to delete such information from our records.

11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes to this policy:
