Community Guidelines

1. Our Purpose

Last Updated: March 15, 2026

TripNextDoor is built around trusted communities coming together to plan and enjoy group travel. These Community Guidelines exist to maintain a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all members. Every user plays a role in keeping our platform welcoming and trustworthy.

By using TripNextDoor, you agree to follow these guidelines. They apply to all interactions on the Platform, including community spaces, trip planning, group chats, expense management, and any other feature.

2. Respectful Communication

Treat every member of the TripNextDoor community with respect and kindness. We are committed to fostering an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome, regardless of background, identity, or travel preferences.

The following behaviours are strictly prohibited:

  • Harassment: Unwanted, repeated, or aggressive behaviour directed at another user, including unsolicited messages, following, or attention after being asked to stop.
  • Hate speech: Content or language that attacks, demeans, or incites violence against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Threats: Any statement or implication of intent to cause harm, whether physical, financial, or otherwise, to another user or group.
  • Bullying: Deliberate intimidation, humiliation, or exclusion of another user, whether publicly or privately within the Platform.

Disagreements are natural, but they must be handled constructively. If a conversation becomes heated, take a step back. If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, use the reporting tools described in Section 8 below.

3. Authentic Profiles

Trust is the foundation of TripNextDoor. To maintain that trust, we require all users to represent themselves honestly on the Platform.

  • Real identity: Use your real name and accurate personal information in your profile. Pseudonyms, fake names, or misleading profile details are not permitted.
  • Accurate community membership: Only join communities that you genuinely belong to. Do not misrepresent your connection to an apartment complex, office, school, or other group to gain access to their trips and activities.
  • No impersonation: Do not create accounts that impersonate another person, whether a fellow user, public figure, or fictional character. Do not use another person's photos, credentials, or identity.

Community admins may verify your membership. Cooperate with verification requests promptly and honestly.

4. Trip Conduct

Group travel works best when everyone is dependable and communicative. When you join a trip on TripNextDoor, you are making a commitment to your fellow travellers.

  • Honour your commitments: If you confirm your participation in a trip, follow through. Other participants may make plans and incur costs based on your confirmed attendance.
  • Communicate changes promptly: If your plans change and you can no longer participate, inform the trip organizer and other participants as early as possible. Use the Platform's tools to update your status so the group can plan accordingly.
  • Be reliable: Arrive on time for planned activities, respect shared schedules, and contribute positively to the group dynamic. Travel is a shared experience — your actions affect everyone involved.

5. Fair Expense Reporting

TripNextDoor provides tools for tracking and splitting group expenses. The integrity of this system depends on every participant acting honestly and transparently.

  • Accurate amounts: Always enter the correct amount when logging an expense. Do not inflate costs, round up excessively, or misrepresent what was spent.
  • Timely settlements: When you owe money to other participants, settle your balance promptly. Persistent failure to settle debts undermines trust and creates friction within the group.
  • No fraudulent entries: Do not create fake expenses, log personal purchases as group expenses, or manipulate expense splits to gain an unfair financial advantage. Fraudulent expense reporting is a serious violation and may result in immediate account suspension.

6. Content Standards

All content shared on TripNextDoor — including trip descriptions, chat messages, photos, comments, and profile information — must meet the following standards:

  • No spam: Do not post repetitive, irrelevant, or unsolicited content. Do not use the Platform for advertising, promotion, or commercial solicitation unless expressly permitted.
  • No inappropriate content: Do not share content that is obscene, sexually explicit, graphically violent, or otherwise offensive. Keep all content appropriate for a general audience.
  • Respect copyright: Only share content that you own or have permission to use. Do not upload copyrighted images, text, or other media without proper authorization from the rights holder.

7. Community Integrity

Communities are the heart of TripNextDoor. Help keep them strong and trustworthy.

  • Respect community rules: Each community may have its own additional rules set by the community admin. Respect these rules just as you would the Platform-wide guidelines.
  • Verified membership: Participate only in communities where you have been properly invited or approved. Do not attempt to bypass community access controls, share invite links without authorization, or join communities under false pretences.

8. Reporting Violations

If you witness or experience behaviour that violates these Community Guidelines, we encourage you to report it so we can take appropriate action.

You can report violations in the following ways:

  • In-app reporting: Use the report feature available on user profiles, trip pages, and community spaces to flag content or behaviour that violates these guidelines.
  • Email: Send a detailed report to support@tripnextdoor.com with as much context as possible, including screenshots, usernames, and a description of the violation.

All reports are reviewed confidentially. We will never disclose the identity of a reporter to the person being reported, except where required by law.

9. Moderation and Enforcement

TripNextDoor takes violations of these guidelines seriously. Depending on the severity and frequency of the violation, we may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Warning: A formal notice informing the user of the specific guideline they have violated, with a reminder of expected behaviour. Warnings are issued for first-time or minor violations.
  • Content removal: Removal of content that violates these guidelines, including messages, photos, trip descriptions, or any other user-generated content.
  • Account suspension: Temporary suspension of the user's account for a defined period. During suspension, the user cannot access the Platform or participate in any activities. Suspensions are issued for repeated or serious violations.
  • Permanent ban: Permanent removal of the user's account and prohibition from creating new accounts. Permanent bans are reserved for the most severe violations, including threats of violence, fraud, and persistent harassment after prior warnings.

The specific action taken is at TripNextDoor's sole discretion and will be proportionate to the nature and severity of the violation.

10. Appeals Process

If you believe that a moderation action taken against your account was made in error or is disproportionate, you have the right to appeal.

To file an appeal:

  • Send an email to support@tripnextdoor.com with the subject line "Moderation Appeal."
  • Include your username, a description of the action taken, and the reason you believe the action should be reconsidered.
  • Provide any supporting evidence or context that may help us review your case.

We will acknowledge your appeal within 48 hours and provide a final decision within 7 business days. The decision on the appeal is final.
